Book Formula 1: Impossible collection

Book Formula 1: Impossible collection by Assouline

Description

A six-point safety harness wraps around your shoulders and between your legs, a neck brace tightens your chest. The world to come is only visible above a ledge at eye level; the world behind is only seen through two mirrors a little bigger than cigarette boxes. The starting lights start to glow red, and when they go out, your life will enter another dimension: this is not a fighter plane or a spaceship, you are on the starting grid of 'a Formula 1 track, strapped into the world's most technologically advanced racing car. The turbocharged engine, with over 1,000 horsepower, is about to kick you in the back, hurtling to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, heading towards the first corner of the track. For the average reader, even driving a single lap of a Grand Prix would be impossible. But for the world's twenty best racing drivers across the series' ten teams, it's an extreme lifestyle in almost every aspect.

Selected by veteran F1 journalist Brad Spurgeon, Formula 1: The Impossible Collection chronicles the steps that took Formula 1 from a gentlemen's club in 1950 to a global sport with hundreds of millions of fans worldwide, third in popularity only after the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup. Highlighting exceptional technical innovations, remarkable driver achievements and thrilling race finishes, this volume spotlights immortal names such as Juan Manuel Fangio, Jim Clark, Bruce McLaren, Enzo Ferrari, Colin Chapman, Bernie Ecclestone, Jackie Stewart, Niki Lauda, Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, Jean Todt, Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton, who recently made history by matching Schumacher's championship titles and breaking his record for total race wins.

A spirited tribute to the sport and all those who have made it possible over the decades, this hand-crafted Ultimate Collection volume dynamically illustrates that Formula 1 is much more than "cars going round in circles", it's is the culmination of a passion that ignites the mechanics, technicians, engineers and team principals behind the scenes, in addition to the drivers themselves, who are willing to possibly make the ultimate sacrifice to be part of its glorious history. Housed in a luxury clamshell case with a metal plaque, this spectacular tome is presented in a red canvas tote bag to preserve its craftsmanship.

Exclusive white gloves and canvas tote bag are included with every purchase of an Ultimate Collection book.
