The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) is pleased to announce the publication of SCAD: The Architecture of a College. The book is the university's second publication with Assouline, the first of which was SCAD president and founder Paula Wallace's memoir The Bee and the Acorn, published in April 2016.

SCAD: The Architecture of a University reveals the resplendent design and enduring charm of SCAD's built environment, with more than 450 color and archival photographs of signature SCAD spaces. A history section recounting the university's most cherished moments rounds out this exquisite 360-page volume.

Highlighting 40 of SCAD's preeminent buildings across four global campuses, SCAD: The Architecture of a University celebrates the rich history and enduring legacy of the world's most comprehensive university of art and design as she is preparing to celebrate her 40th birthday. Remarkably detailed accounts illuminate the storied past of the university's unique architectural treasures - from its flagship Poetter Hall in Savannah, to the majestic Ivy Hall in Atlanta, to the bucolic and elegant Maison Basse in Lacoste, France, to the noble North Kowloon Magistracy Building in Hong Kong - and describe SCAD's meticulous care in the artistic conservation of each historic structure.

Historic preservation and adaptive reuse have been an important part of SCAD's identity since President Wallace founded the university in 1978. Wallace has been recognized for his efforts by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the American Institute of Architects and the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art, among others. Under Wallace's leadership, the university has repurchased and revitalized more than 100 buildings on three continents, with SCAD's award-winning art museum being one of the most significant restoration projects to date.
