Book Chanel: Impossible collection by Assouline
Description
"Karl Lagerfeld elevated Chanel's status from classic to legendary by reinventing her famous designs for a new era. Bazaar contributor Alexander Fury's book is a testament to that influence" - Harper's Bazaar
More than any other designer of her time, Gabrielle Chanel had the ability to predict the evolution of contemporary fashion. An extraordinary self-inventor, Chanel revolutionized the lifestyle of her time by inventing a modern concept of luxury minimalism, elevating humble fabrics such as jersey and tweed to couture status, giving birth to a new silhouette at once sophisticated and discreet, leaving its mark on the twentieth century with its modern spirit of discreet luxury.
The Chanel house represents modern fashion. Under its founder, the style of the modern woman was invented, through the image of Gabrielle Chanel herself. She dressed women to be free and her emancipated clothing reflected the changing landscape of society. His designs have fundamentally influenced what we wear and how we wear it. The house's work under his successor Karl Lagerfeld transformed fashion again: he drew the model of a fashion designer reviving a moribund house with elements from his own history. Just as Chanel created modern fashion, Lagerfeld in turn established the model for the modern fashion house. It has reshaped the clothes women wear, it has reshaped the industry that makes them.
This book is a literary museum exhibition, a curated selection of 100 iconic and signature looks from the house of Chanel, from the timeless Little Black Dress to the impeccably simple tweed suit, the apothecary-style perfume bottle, the two-tone pumps, the abundant strands of pearls and artificial stones, and quilted leather handbags adorned with diamonds, from Mademoiselle's revolutionary creations to Karl Lagerfeld's unexpected and even irreverent variations on his original codes.
Selected by fashion journalist Alexander Fury, Chanel: The Impossible Collection features the best images from the world's leading editorial photographers, specialist museums and private collections, including rarely seen archival photos, this Ultimate Collection volume is the collection par excellence for fashion aficionados.
Exclusive white gloves and canvas tote bag are included with every purchase of an Ultimate Collection book.
